Eye Exam

I forgot to mention that Jimmy will be having his eye exam today. They'll be checking for retinapothy of prematurity. Basically checking for under-developed eyes, and possible pulling or tearing away of the retina. We're expecting, like all preemies, his eyes will be immature at this point, needing more time to fully develop. Praying that is all, and there will be no further abnormalities or issues that will need laser treatment or surgery.

The test will involve numbing his eyes with drops, then giving him the pupil-dialiating drops. The eye doctor will exam his eyes as he would anyones - holding the eyes open briefly and shining his light in for a good look. Babies don't usually care for the drops or having their eye held open. So Jimmy will get some pain-numbing sucrose on his paci to help him through. I'm hoping to be there at the time of the exam to comfort my little guy. But you never know when a doctor might (or might not!) show up :)

Thank you for joining us in praying for Jimmy's various tests and challenges. God is so good to us- protecting us from extreme sickness or scary diagnoses. He's giving us exactly what we need for each day... As long as I remember His promise and save tomorrow's worry for tomorrow. Today has enough exhaustion and fears...and more than enough comfort and protection.
