Prayer Request

Jimmy's wonderful nurse today is a believer and she asked me to ask my prayer warriors to pray specifically for him (isn't that so cool?). She feels like Jimmy might be dealing with some silent reflux. Or other digestive issue. She suctioned what looked like milk out of his nose twice today. To the point that she wonders if the underlying digestive issue is the reason he isn't doing well with the bottle. He is reluctant to actively eat, which may be in an effort to protect himself from the pain when the milk comes back up. Or, if I understand right, he could be protecting himself from aspirating the milk if he can't suck and swallow.

The nurse is seeing more and more babies struggle in this way, forcing parents to give their babies formula thickened with rice cereal instead of breast milk. Adding rice cereal to breast milk actually makes it thinner. (and you know I will not be going down that formula/rice cereal road without a big fight!)

Please join us in praying specifically for his eating and digestion- the ability to coordinate the complex skill of suck-swallow-breathe. And to gain the energy to eat from a bottle for a full feeding, many times a day. Pray for his sphincter muscle at the top of his stomach as it may not be closing tightly causing the milk and acid to reflux back up.
Let's ask the Lord to continue to do His mighty work in Jimmy's body - giving him the ability to thrive, grow, and surpass all we could ask or dream.
